Chima Amadi’s APP Launch Triggers Panic Among Imo Political Parties
As Dr. Chima Amadi unveils the Action Peoples Party in Imo, APC, PDP, and ADC face anxiety over defections and a new grassroots movement ahead of 2027.
Political tension is mounting in Imo State following the formal unveiling of the Action Peoples Party (APP) by Dr. Chima Amadi, a governance reform advocate and founder of The Mazi Organization (TMO), as his platform for the 2027 governorship election.
Sources within both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties — including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) — have confirmed growing unease over Amadi’s entry into the race, amid fears of mass defections.
Observers describe the development as a major shake-up in Imo’s political landscape, with supporters across party lines reportedly flocking to the new movement.
A senior opposition figure, who spoke anonymously, told reporters:
“This isn’t the usual political noise. What Dr. Amadi and TMO have built over the past three years is a people-driven structure that reaches deep into the grassroots across all 27 local government areas. That’s what’s keeping many of us up at night.”
Political analyst Nze Joe Ogbe echoed that sentiment, describing the APP as the “formalization of an existing movement.”
“APP is not just another party; it’s the evolution of a civic network into a political force. The old order is nervous because they’re not dealing with a typical aspirant but with a structured grassroots system.
The emergence of Amadi and APP signals a generational shift — proof that politics in Imo is moving from personality to purpose.”
At the APP unveiling in Owerri, Amadi declared the new party a “social contract between leadership and the people.”
“The time for people-driven leadership in Imo has come,” he said, emphasizing that APP represents the political arm of TMO’s long-standing grassroots initiatives across all 27 LGAs.
“We are not building another seasonal political structure. This is a long-term movement born out of frustration with elite politics and a demand for accountable governance.”
Analysts say Amadi’s track record with TMO — which has organized town halls, youth empowerment programs, and community development projects — has already established his grassroots credibility, positioning him as a serious contender ahead of 2027.
Many now view APP’s launch as one of the most significant political realignments in Imo’s recent history, potentially redefining voter alliances in the next election cycle.
