American rapper Nicki Minaj has renewed international focus on alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria, calling for urgent intervention during a United Nations event hosted Tuesday by U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz.

Minaj, who has spoken out on the issue several times in recent months, said she was invited to participate after her posts on X caught the ambassador’s attention. She opened her remarks by thanking former U.S. President Donald Trump for placing the matter on the global agenda.

Highlighting how music has shown her the strength of unity across cultures and religions, Minaj stressed that freedom of belief must be protected everywhere, warning that faith is “under attack in way too many places.”

She said:
“I would like to thank President Trump for prioritizing this issue and his leadership on the global stage in calling for urgent action to defend Christians in Nigeria and to combat extremism and to bring a stop to violence against those who simply want to express their natural right to freedom of religion or belief.

“In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes and killed. Churches have been burned, families have been torn apart and entire communities live in fear constantly simply because of how they pray,” she stated, insisting that the crisis requires immediate attention.

Minaj emphasized that her advocacy is neither political nor divisive.
“I want to be clear, protecting Christians in Nigeria is not about taking sides or dividing people. It is about uniting humanity,” she said.

She concluded:
“I want to make it clear once again, this isn’t about taking sides. This is about standing up in the face of injustice. It’s about what I’ve always stood for my entire career and I will continue to stand for that for the rest of my life.”

Her speech comes shortly after Trump announced plans to add Nigeria to the list of Countries of Particular Concern, warning that the U.S. could halt aid and potentially intervene militarily if attacks on Christians persist.
