Court Orders NMA to Verify Nnamdi Kanu’s Health Status Within 8 Days
The Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to form a medical panel to evaluate IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu’s health condition and report back within eight days.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to set up a panel of medical experts to assess the health condition of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Delivering the ruling on Friday, Justice James Omotosho ordered that the NMA’s medical team submit its report within eight days. He said the findings would help the court decide on Kanu’s application seeking transfer to the National Hospital, Abuja, for comprehensive treatment.
Justice Omotosho further instructed the committee to inspect the Department of State Services (DSS) medical facility where Kanu is currently receiving care, to determine whether it can adequately address his health needs.
The judge added that the NMA panel, which should include between eight and ten members, must feature a cardiologist, a neurologist, and the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital. He also granted the team freedom to use any hospital in the country for its evaluation.
