David Beckham Knighted by King Charles III, Calls It His “Proudest Moment”
Former England captain David Beckham receives knighthood from King Charles III at Windsor Castle, calling it his “proudest moment.” The football legend attended with wife Victoria and his parents.
Former England football captain David Beckham has been officially knighted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle, describing the honour as “without doubt, my proudest moment.”
The 50-year-old sports icon, who earned 115 caps for England and starred for top clubs such as Manchester United and Real Madrid, received the knighthood in recognition of his outstanding contributions to sport and philanthropy.
Reflecting on the moment, Beckham said it was deeply meaningful for “a boy from London’s East End” to stand before the monarch.
“It’s quite a moment to be here at Windsor Castle, being honoured by His Majesty the King — the most important and most respected institution in the world,” he said.
“This is without doubt my proudest moment.”
The ceremony was attended by Beckham’s wife, Victoria Beckham, who designed his elegant grey suit, as well as his parents, Ted and Sandra Beckham.
The former Manchester United midfielder, who has been referred to as Sir David since the announcement of the honour in June, joked that his wife is now officially “Lady Beckham.”
Asked about his interaction with the King, Beckham said Charles complimented his attire.
“He was quite impressed with my suit,” Beckham revealed, smiling.
The football legend added that the recognition held special personal significance, as he has always admired the British monarchy.
“I’ve been very lucky in my career to have won what I’ve won and done what I’ve done,” Beckham said. “But to receive an honour like this — a knighthood — is beyond anything I ever imagined.”
