Despite growing factionalism, Labour Party secures Obidients
Oswald further emphasized that the Labour Party would make it exceedingly difficult for any factionalized Obidient movement to gain significant traction.
The Labour Party (LP) has consolidated the loyalty of its Obidient supporters, despite growing factionalism within the movement.
According to Vanguard findings, a faction of the Obidient movement has made plans to exit the LP in favour of another political platform.
However, the party’s Directorate of Mobilization and Integration (DMI), which has strengthened the party’s grassroots structure, is expected to mitigate any potential impact from this factional shift.
A Labour Party chieftain and Coordinator of the Obidient Youth Ambassadors, Meche Oswald, said on Tuesday in Abuja that the DMI’s grassroots presence across Nigeria would make it challenging for any splinter group to gain significant traction.
Oswald commended the foresight of LP Chairman Barrister Abure and DMI Director-General Marcel Ngogbehei for their efforts to position the party as a strong force in Nigerian politics.
“The Labour Party’s DMI has been able to coordinate the support groups in the party, commanding about 75 percent loyalty from the groups across the country,” Oswald said.
The Directorate has set up state and local government coordinators, which Oswald views as a strategy to strengthen the LP’s grassroots structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
He added, “The Labour Party platform in 2027 will boast of massive numbers of volunteers willing to work and support the Party’s candidates across board.”
Oswald further emphasized that the Labour Party would make it exceedingly difficult for any factionalized Obidient movement to gain significant traction.
“With DMI’s extensive grassroots presence in every community across Nigeria, it will be extremely challenging for the factionalized Obidient movement to promote any other political platform,” he boasted.
