DHQ Dismisses Viral Video Claiming CDS Oluyede Ordered Forced Military Recruitment
The Defence Headquarters has dismissed a viral AI-generated video falsely alleging that CDS Gen. Olufemi Oluyede ordered the forceful recruitment of young Nigerians. DHQ urges the public to ignore the fake clip and rely on official military channels for verified information.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has refuted a viral video circulating online that falsely portrays the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, directing the forced recruitment of young Nigerians into the military to tackle insecurity.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the DHQ described the video as fabricated, stressing that General Oluyede never gave such an order.
Brigadier General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, addressed the misinformation in a statement titled “Circulation Of A Fake Video Purported To Emanate From The Chief Of Defence Staff, General OO Oluyede.”
According to the DHQ, “The attention of the Defence Headquarters has been drawn to the circulation of a fake video depicting a mischievously cloned image of the Chief of Defence Staff General OO Oluyede AFM.”
The statement added that the doctored clip falsely claimed the military planned to “forcefully recruit young Nigerians from the age of 18 years into the military against their will.”
Describing the video as malicious and defamatory, Uba noted that it aimed to cast both the CDS and the Armed Forces in a negative light.
He emphasized that military service remains voluntary, saying, “The military remains a noble profession with thousands of patriotic Nigerians ever ready to willingly join its ranks as attested to during various recruitment exercises into the 3 arms of the Nigerian military.”
Uba clarified that neither the CDS, the Service Chiefs, nor any member of the Armed Forces had made such a statement.
He further cautioned Nigerians about the dangers of misinformation in the age of Artificial Intelligence.
“In this age of Artificial Intelligence, disinformation and malinformation, it is important that care is taken by all to avoid the creation and sharing of fake statements and videos without clearly verifying their source and authenticity,” he warned.
The DHQ urged the public to rely solely on verified Defence Headquarters spokespersons and official social media platforms for authenticated statements.
