DisCos Install 70,888 New Meters in August — NERC

NERC reports that DisCos installed 70,888 new meters in August 2025, raising Nigeria’s metering rate to 55.01%. Ikeja, Eko, and Abuja DisCos led performance as NERC approved ₦28bn for further metering expansion.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has announced that Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) installed 70,888 new electricity meters in August 2025.

This was disclosed in NERC’s Metering Factsheet for July and August 2025, published on its website on Monday in Abuja.

According to the report, 70,888 customers were metered in August, compared to 76,783 in July — reflecting continued progress in the ongoing metering drive across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

The total number of active electricity customers also rose from 11.89 million in July to 11.96 million in August 2025. Of this figure, 6.58 million customers were metered, representing a metering rate of 55.01%, a slight increase from 54.71% in July.

The report identified the top-performing DisCos as Ikeja Electric (84.83%), Eko Electricity (84.25%), and Abuja Electricity (73.92%), underscoring gradual progress in bridging Nigeria’s metering gap and improving billing transparency for electricity users.

Meanwhile, NERC recently approved ₦28 billion for DisCos to procure and install meters for unmetered Band A and B customers within their respective service areas.

The commission explained that the funds, released under Tranche B of the Meter Asset Financing (MAF) scheme, are intended to complete metering for all unmetered Band A customers and accelerate metering for those classified under Band B.
