Economic Miracle! -By Joe Dauda

This issue of biblical blessings and cursing sometimes makes me wonder about Africa. We are descendants of Cush; and Cush is the grandson of Ham — the same Ham that saw his father’s nakedness and secured for himself a curse, unlike Sem and Japhet. Is Noah’s curse part of our problem?

According to the International Monetary Fund, Israel’s GDP per capita is now $55,540. That’s almost N55m in today’s naira. And if you do not know what GDP means or what it implies, ask Google.

Just two decades ago, Israel’s GDP was $12,000. Now at over $55, 500, Israel is ahead of most of Western Europe as well as Japan.

Remember, all of this economic development while they are surrounded with many enemies and without having a single completely peaceful day.

According to the Bible, “the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” Romans 11:29.

The Israelis are not a righteousness nation per se; but the blessings of Abraham is as real as the last Agege bread you saw on the street.

If you doubt the Bible as God’s word, try explaining the phenomenon called Israel.

I’m not trying to explain Africa’s perpetual underdevelopment from a spiritual perspective, but I remember what my teacher referred to as the “Scientific Method.” This was as far back as Junior Secondary School. One of the protocols in the “Scientific Method” is observation.

It is from this that theories are formulated.

I’m not ready for a theory to explain the mystery of Africa’s misery and poverty in the midst of so much natural resources, but, sometimes, I wonder. And the curse of Ham is never far from my mind. It seems to me that, when they are on their own (at an individual level) Africans have proven to be as capable as any race — even in the highly complex field of space technology. Former US Ambassador to Nigeria, Andrew Young, told Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (when Obasanjo was President) that he saw names of Nigerians in NASA’s Space Lab in the US. Because Ambassador Young had lived in Nigeria and could identify both Yoruba and Igbo names, he was able to tell that these scientists and inventors whose names he had seen where Nigerians. So the observed trend is that African do well on their own anywhere in the world. But it also seems that, once you have a complete nation under the jurisdiction of Africans and consisting of Africans, Ham comes knocking. I’m yet to read his book but the title says it all. My brother once told me about a book published by Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo. Guess how he titled his book?

What Is Wrong With The Black Man?

Supposing the curse of Ham is at the root of our unfortunate experience, the good news is that you can exempt yourself from the curse — by living based on principles. Because there is a law known as the law of sowing and reaping, which can save you from a corporate curse by rewarding your wise actions with beneficial consequences.

And because of how close the second coming of Jesus Christ is (based on my understanding of end times prophecy) I have once said, without thinking, “So Africa never made it.”

Perhaps I’m right; perhaps I’m wrong.

We shall see . . .

Have a great day and assume that the curse of Ham is real. Sow wisely. And it begins with your thoughts because thoughts become actions, which become habits, which become character, which become destiny.
