EFCC Declares Former Petroleum Minister Timipre Sylva Wanted Over $14.8m Fraud Allegation

The EFCC has declared former Petroleum Minister and ex-Bayelsa Governor Timipre Sylva wanted over alleged conspiracy and dishonest conversion of $14.8 million linked to a refinery project. The warrant was issued by the Federal High Court in Lagos on November 6, 2025.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Bayelsa State Governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, wanted over alleged financial misconduct involving $14.8 million.

In a notice shared via its official X handle on Monday, the anti-graft agency accused Sylva of “conspiracy and dishonest conversion of $14,859,257”, said to be part of funds invested by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) into Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited for refinery construction.

The EFCC stated that the declaration followed a November 6, 2025 warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Part of the public notice read:

“The public is hereby notified that Timipre Sylva, a former Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, and former Governor of Bayelsa State, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with an alleged case of conspiracy and dishonest conversion of $14,859,257.”

The agency urged anyone with useful information about Sylva’s whereabouts to contact its offices nationwide or report through 08093322644, info@efcc.gov.ng, or the nearest police station.

Sylva, 61, hails from Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
