Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested three suspects for alleged vote-buying during the Anambra governorship election on Saturday.
The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja, confirming that the arrests were made in different locations across the state following credible intelligence and on-the-ground surveillance by operatives monitoring electoral misconduct.
According to Oyewale, the suspects were caught either offering cash to voters or receiving money in exchange for votes.
He identified the arrest locations as Ward 2 in Njikoka Local Government Area, Ward 2 (008) in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government, and Umunachi village in Dunukofia Local Government.
“All the suspects were arrested while participating in the governorship election held on Saturday. They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,”
Oyewale stated.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring credible elections and vowed to pursue the case to a legal conclusion once investigations are complete.
