Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), says he has received an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) — a development that could reopen scrutiny into asset recoveries, seized-asset disposals and major contract approvals from the Buhari administration.

Malami disclosed this in a personally signed statement shared on Facebook, affirming that he is prepared to meet with investigators. He stressed that his years in public office were guided by accountability and transparency.

“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” Malami wrote.

He added that openness and responsible governance had shaped his public service. “I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service, the principles that I both advocate and champion,” he said.

Malami noted that he had notified his family and associates, explaining that the Commission requested clarification on select issues — which he is ready to provide.

“I am informing my family and friends that EFCC has invited me to clarify on some issues, and as a citizen of law and order and patriot, I am willing to honor this invitation without any hesitation,” he said.

He further emphasized that honesty and integrity have always been central to his leadership.
“I believe in the importance of honesty, integrity and honesty in leadership, these are principles I’ve long supported and uphold, over the years I’ve spent in public service,” he added.

Malami assured Nigerians that he will provide updates as necessary, describing transparency as essential in matters of public interest.
“On this note, I am informing Nigerians of any development that will follow, so that everyone will be aware,” he wrote.

As of the time of this report, Malami had yet to arrive at the EFCC headquarters. According to officials, the agency only intends to obtain “certain information” from him.

Sources, however, told Saturday Vanguard that the invitation may relate to several contentious decisions made under his watch, including high-profile asset recovery operations, the disposal of seized vessels and petroleum products, and contract approvals that previously attracted public criticism. Some of these actions reportedly raised concerns over transparency and the management of recovered national assets.

The EFCC has not released specific details on the scope of its investigation.
