El-Rufai after leaving APC, opens TikTok account

He criticised the ruling party, accusing it of abandoning its founding principles and prioritising personal financial gain over governance.

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has launched a TikTok account to share his views on Nigerian politics and his new party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

In an announcement video on Wednesday, El-Rufai invited users to engage with him through videos, comments and discussions on political affairs.

“This is my only and official TikTok page,” he stated. “Please join me for videos, comments and conversations on Nigerian politics, as well as the activities of our new party, Social Democratic Party (SDP). Welcome on board.”

El-Rufai’s TikTok page gained significant traction within 24 hours. At the time of this report, he had amassed over 200,000 followers.

In his TikTok bio, the former governor describes himself as an “accidental public servant, certified ruffler of feathers and deliberate SDP member.”

El-Rufai’s move to TikTok follows his recent resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and subsequent switch to the SDP on Monday.

He criticised the ruling party, accusing it of abandoning its founding principles and prioritising personal financial gain over governance.

“The APC has abandoned the principles that led to its establishment,” he said. “It has abandoned the community. Everyone is doing their own thing. Everyone is looking for money. The government has become a business government.”
