Elon Musk Launches Grokipedia to Rival Wikipedia, Promises ‘Truth Without Bias’
Elon Musk’s xAI has unveiled Grokipedia, a new AI-powered encyclopedia aimed at challenging Wikipedia, which Musk accuses of left-wing bias. The Tesla CEO says the platform will strive for “the whole truth and nothing but the truth.”
Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has officially launched Grokipedia, a new online encyclopedia designed to rival Wikipedia, which the billionaire entrepreneur has repeatedly accused of harboring ideological bias.
The platform, which Musk described as “version 0.1,” went live on Monday with more than 885,000 articles, a number dwarfed by Wikipedia’s over seven million English entries.
Musk announced that a more advanced version 1.0 is in development, promising a major upgrade.
“The goal of Grok and Grokipedia.com is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We will never be perfect, but we shall nonetheless strive towards that goal,” Musk said in a post on X following the launch.
He added that the upcoming release would be “10X better” than the current iteration, which he already claims surpasses Wikipedia in quality and accuracy.
Originally slated for release in late September, the debut of Grokipedia was delayed to “purge out the propaganda,” according to Musk.
The xAI founder has long been critical of Wikipedia, alleging that the site is “controlled by far-left activists.” In 2024, he urged users to stop donating to the non-profit encyclopedia, and in August of the same year, he declared that “Wikipedia cannot be used as a definitive source for Community Notes, as the editorial control there is extremely left-biased.”
Grokipedia’s content is powered by artificial intelligence, primarily generated through Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, integrated with his X platform.
A Grokipedia entry about Musk describes him as someone who has “influenced broader debates on technological progress, demographic decline, and institutional biases, often via X,” while also noting “criticisms from legacy media outlets that exhibit systemic left-leaning tilts in coverage.”
Wikipedia, founded in 2001, remains a collaborative encyclopedia run largely by volunteers and funded through donations. It maintains that it adheres to a “neutral point of view” in its content creation and moderation.
As of Tuesday, Wikipedia had not yet commented on the launch of Musk’s Grokipedia.
