The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called on the Igbo people to engage in intensive farming as the new planting season begins, emphasizing the importance of agriculture in ensuring food security in the region.

In a statement issued by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Strong, the group highlighted the success of its Agricultural Revolution Project, which was launched last year to support farmers across various regions of the South-East. The initiative provided agricultural seedlings to farmers, resulting in a bountiful harvest and an increase in food production.

According to the statement, several crops that were previously considered exclusive to Northern Nigeria—such as tomatoes, cabbage, carrots, millet, and beans—were successfully cultivated and harvested in the South-East. Encouraged by these results, IPOB pledged to extend further support to selected farmers this year to enhance food production.

The organization urged Igbo governors, philanthropists, and community leaders to support local farmers by providing agricultural supplies instead of distributing imported food products. IPOB also encouraged investments in livestock and other agricultural ventures to ensure food self-sufficiency and reduce dependency on external sources.

Furthermore, the group reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of farmers in the region, stating that measures would be put in place to protect farmlands from security threats. Farmers were encouraged to make use of every available piece of land for cultivation, even within residential compounds, to maximize food production.
