The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission has extended the date of Local Government primary elections by two days.

In a statement by the Commission’s Secretary, P.O. Ojo, the final date for the conduct of primary elections by registered political parties is now April 8 as against the former April 6, while April 19 election date remains sacrosanct.

The statement read: “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly registered political parties in the state, that the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission has extended the date for the conduct of primaries by two days.

“This is in view of the number of registered political parties that have scheduled their primaries on the 6 of April, 2022, which was the last day for the conduct of the primaries. The last date for the primaries is now Friday 8 April, 2022.

“The shift of date for the primaries has nothing to do with the date of the election, as other dates remain fixed and firm,” he added.
