Ex-Presidential Candidate Condemns And Laments Murder Of Deborah Samuel, Calls For Justice -By Harrison Nwachukwu

The suspects who were co-students of the deceased were docked at a Sokoto Chief Magistrate’s Court for their alleged participation in the crime. When asked to take their pleas, they pleaded not guilty to the crime. Prosecuting Inspector Khalil Musa told the court that an investigation was in progress as Deborah’s corpse was still in a morgue at the Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto. She has however been buried in her home town in Niger state.

Presidential Candidate of Mass Action Joint Alliance (MAJA) in the 2019 Presidential election, Princess Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies condemns as she laments the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel, while she calls for Justice and Peace by the necessary authorities in the nation.

She said, “she became so concerned as an academic because the incident took place at a supposed ‘citadel of intellectualism’. ”Deborah Samuel, a 200-Level, home economics student at Sokoto’s Shehu Shagari College of Education, was assassinated by her classmates after they suspected her of making a disrespectful remark about Prophet Muhammed in an higher institution of learning on claimed blasphemy,

She further laments, saying the matter became more cause for concern as several Muslims are in support, for instance, it’s so sad to read following the incident that, “Muslim youths attack Sultan of Sokoto Palace”; demand release of Deborah’s killers on May 14, 2022 by Newsflash, Nigeria. “The Sultan of Sokoto’s Palace was on Saturday under siege by the youth demanding the release of the alleged killers of Deborah Samuel.”

Adesanya-Davies condemns this killing of Deborah Samuel, calls for Justice and Equality in Nigeria, says the barbaric and brutal murder is uncalled for and needs to be brought to justice. No respect for even an elder! What are our youths and so called College of Education students turning into in the North? No respect for elders, no morals and no respect for human life and dignity. That institution needs to be closed down completely and indefinitely!

It is also disheartening to learn that, “34 lawyers are willing to defend suspected killers of Deborah Samuel in court in Nigeria. In a report titled, “34 lawyers defend suspected killers of Deborah Samuel in court” as published by Michael Adesina on 16th May, 2022. “A total number of thirty-four lawyers defended Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunci, the suspected killers of Deborah Samuel, in court. “What!” – She exclaimed.

The defense team was led by Prof. Mansur Ibrahim; Deborah Samuel, as this 200-Level Home Economics student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, was lynched by a mob on May 12 over alleged blasphemy. And both the Professor and Lawyers are supposed to be educated, intellectuals and learned Nigerians, It’s so so sad, Are even the top intellectuals also brainwashed? She asks.

The leader of the defense team, Prof. Mansur Ibrahim then applied for the bail of the suspects on liberal terms, citing constitutional provisions and sections of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law. The trial judge (name withheld for security reasons), however, reserved the ruling on the bail application and ordered the accused to be remanded at a correctional centre.

Nigerian Police Sokoto State Command has revealed names of Deborah Samuel’s killers. The identities of the two suspects in the murder of Deborah Samuel have been identified on Monday. The prosecutor, Inspector Khalil Musa, named the suspects as Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunchi, both college students. They ordered now remanded at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal consequently imposed a 24-hour curfew on Sokoto metropolis on Saturday. He relaxed the curfew on Monday to be observed from dusk to dawn. Adesanya-Davies therefore calls for Justice and Peace in Sokoto state, Nigeria.
