FCTA Resident Doctors Suspend Strike After Senate, Wike Intervene
Resident doctors under ARD-FCTA have suspended their week-long strike after Senate intervention and assurances involving FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Doctors are to resume duty on Sept. 22.
The Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCTA), has suspended its indefinite strike after interventions from government authorities and stakeholders.
Dr. George Ebong, President of ARD-FCTA, confirmed the suspension in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, directing all members to resume full duties by 8 a.m. on Monday, September 22.
He explained that the decision followed the intervention of the Senate Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, as well as respect for the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
“The Senate intervened. Though our demands are still unmet, they promised to speak with the minister. We suspended action hoping the minister will listen,” Ebong said.
NAN reports that the doctors had embarked on the indefinite strike on Monday, September 15, over poor remuneration, unsafe working conditions, and other unresolved issues.
