FG lists crimes prevalent in North West, South South, others

“A special task force against oil theft set up by the Inspector-General of Police is operating in the zone, to check illegal bunkering and related acts of economic sabotage.”

The Ministry of Police Affairs has listed the different forms of crimes prevalent or peculiar to the different regions of the country.

This was contained in the ministry’s scorecard which covers August 2019 to May 2023.

The scorecard was presented by the Minister of Police Affairs, Dr Muhammad Dingyadi.

The report read in part, “The North-East, for instance, has a history of Boko Haram campaign against harmless citizens since 2009. These mindless terrorists subsequently sought alliance with the Islamic State for West Africa province.

“Security in the South-East came under severe threat, following violent attacks on security formations and civilians by militant Biafran separatists group.

“Unlike the South-East, the South-South region is relatively free from violent criminalities. However, there are isolated cases of kidnap for ransom and armed robbery, and it’s been dealt with by the police and other security agencies.
