FG Orders Contractor to Work Day and Night on Abuja–Keffi Expressway Rehabilitation
The Federal Government has directed the contractor handling the Abuja–Keffi expressway to work day and night to fast-track completion. Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, stressed the urgency of easing traffic and ensuring timely delivery of the project.
The Federal Ministry of Works has ordered the contractor handling the Abuja–Keffi expressway rehabilitation to speed up completion of the project, even if it requires night work.
Minister of State for Works, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, gave the directive during an inspection on Thursday, stressing the urgency of easing the heavy traffic congestion that has become a daily ordeal for commuters.
He explained that while 41 kilometres of the 43.6-kilometre Keffi-bound section have been completed, the remaining three kilometres on the Abuja-bound stretch remain problematic due to flooding.
“The contractor has been urged to work at night when traffic is lighter to ensure the project is completed within the stipulated time,” Goronyo said.
The minister noted that palliative measures, including drainage channels to redirect water, must be provided to make the road motorable. He added that the Abuja–Keffi road is a vital route, used daily by thousands of civil servants and residents, and should no longer pose difficulties.
“We don’t want to see this persistent gridlock. The contractor must mobilise fully and deliver this project promptly,” Goronyo stressed, assuring that the ministry was closely monitoring progress.
