FG Orders Immediate Night Repairs on Failed Lagos–Ota–Abeokuta Road
The Federal Government has ordered immediate night repairs on the Lagos–Ota–Abeokuta Road, with Works Minister Dave Umahi targeting critical sections to restore traffic flow.
The Federal Government has directed the immediate start of palliative repair works on the Lagos–Ota–Abeokuta Road to fix critical failures and ease traffic congestion along the busy corridor.
The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, issued the directive during an inspection of the federal highway linking Lagos and Ogun states.
Umahi explained that while about 22 kilometres of the road were assessed, urgent intervention would concentrate on roughly 18 kilometres identified as the most severely distressed sections.
According to him, the Federal Government is already handling about 60 kilometres along the route, with construction being carried out in phases based on priority and urgency.
The minister attributed the road’s deterioration to unresolved concession challenges and the use of faulty engineering parameters during previous construction.
He said repair works would begin immediately, largely at night, and would focus on sections that currently obstruct smooth vehicular movement.
“Low-lying failed areas will be reconstructed with concrete to ensure durability,” Umahi said.
He noted that the Ota-bound carriageway has sustained more damage than the Lagos-bound side.
Umahi added that a second phase of the project would include full resurfacing, replacement of bridge expansion joints, and the installation of solar-powered streetlights.
He also assured that the concessionaire would take responsibility for operating and maintaining the road once the ongoing rehabilitation works are completed.
