FG Seeks China’s Support to Train Engineers, Boost Road Technology
Nigeria’s Minister of State for Works, Mohammed Goronyo, has asked China for deeper collaboration on engineer training, modern construction equipment, and advanced road technology transfer. A CGGC delegation expressed interest in supporting Nigeria’s infrastructure development.
The Minister of State for Works, Barr. Mohammed Goronyo, says the federal government is eager to deepen its longstanding relationship with the People’s Republic of China to improve Nigeria’s road infrastructure and enhance the technical capacity of local engineers.
Goronyo made the remarks during a meeting with a high-level delegation from CGGC Global Plc at his office in Abuja.
A statement issued Thursday by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Ahmed, quoted the minister as reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening road development through improved technical expertise, modern engineering standards, and global best practices.
The minister outlined proposed areas of collaboration, including:
- Training opportunities for Nigerian engineers in China,
- Provision of modern road construction and maintenance equipment, and
- Transfer of advanced road technologies and methodologies to ensure local adaptation and long-term sustainability.
Responding, the Vice President of CGGC, Mr. He Yongjun, expressed the company’s “strong interest” in contributing to Nigeria’s infrastructure development. He however requested direct access to project opportunities, noting reservations about participating under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework—Nigeria’s officially approved and transparent model for government contract engagement.
The delegation was received by the Minister of State, alongside the Director of Human Resource Management representing the Permanent Secretary, senior ministry officials, and the Managing Director of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engr. Dr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi, with senior FERMA staff.
CGGC’s team included Vice President He Yongjun, Security Director Song Yunwu, Africa Marketing Director Tian Yimeng, Project Management Director Peng Changbing, and other senior executives.
