A one-storey commercial building on Somoye Street, Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos, was destroyed by fire in the early hours of Tuesday, resulting in the loss of property worth several million naira.

Eyewitnesses reported that the blaze, which broke out around midnight, engulfed a building housing dealers in computers and computer accessories. No fatalities were recorded, but a Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) official sustained minor injuries and was treated on-site by Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) personnel.

Responding to distress calls, teams from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) quickly arrived at the scene, containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to neighboring structures.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but the building’s high volume of combustible materials, including computers and accessories, contributed to the rapid spread of the flames. The entire upper floor of the structure was completely destroyed.

Confirming the incident, LASEMA Permanent Secretary Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu said:
“All goods and properties worth several millions of naira stored therein were completely destroyed by the conflagration.”

He added that a preliminary physical assessment showed partial structural compromise, requiring further evaluation. Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu noted that risk assessments and precautionary measures by emergency responders helped prevent damage to surrounding buildings.

Firefighting operations have concluded, with damping-down activities ongoing to eliminate residual heat and prevent re-ignition. Traders, residents, and sympathizers gathered at the scene as affected shop owners began assessing their losses.
