Focus of the United Kingdom moves away from Balmoral

LONDON – All is peaceful and still at Balmoral Castle this morning with a rainbow framing the King’s estate.

A heron, stock-still, is fishing in the River Dee. Weary police officers are waiting to be relieved after standing guard all night over the forest of flowers, now damp after Sunday’s rain. There are now many thousands of tributes here.

I am the only reporter left. The cameras, the tents and the tripods have all moved on to Edinburgh as the focus of the nation shifts to Charles III and his reign.

But the tributes outside these imposing gates remain. Typical of the many was one which read: “Recognised, revered, remembered around the globe.”
