Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a major Boko Haram assault on Ngamdu town in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, killing dozens of terrorists in a fierce gun battle that also claimed the lives of four soldiers.

The attack occurred along the Maiduguri–Damaturu–Kano/Jos highway, roughly 100 kilometres from Maiduguri, when insurgents launched a coordinated offensive using rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), armed drones, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

According to military sources, the troops, supported by reinforcements from the 29 Task Force Brigade, responded swiftly and decisively, overpowering the attackers after several hours of intense combat.

“Despite the ferocity of the attack, our troops stood their ground and responded with superior firepower, inflicting heavy losses on the terrorists,” a military source said.

The source confirmed that four soldiers were killed in action, while five others sustained injuries. Some Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and gun trucks were damaged during the encounter.

Intelligence reports indicated that a large number of insurgents were neutralized, with about 15 of their bodies buried by their comrades near Bula Wura, close to Wasaram village.

In an attempt to delay reinforcements, the terrorists planted multiple IEDs along the Ngamdu–Damaturu Main Supply Route (MSR), forcing a temporary closure of the highway. Military engineers, however, promptly cleared three explosive-laden points, restoring safe movement for both military and civilian vehicles.

Following the clash, troops received fresh logistics supplies, including ammunition and MRAP tyres, to sustain their operations and maintain control of the area.

“The 29 Task Force Brigade has since launched fighting patrols and exploitation missions to deny the terrorists freedom of action and consolidate operational gains,” the source added.

The gallantry and resilience of the troops have been widely commended, with the military assuring residents that normalcy has returned to the Ngamdu axis as clearance operations continue to ensure lasting peace and security.
