Freed Kwara Church Abductees Receive Medical Care at Government House
Thirty-eight abducted members of CAC Oke-Isegun, Eruku, have arrived at the Kwara Government House for medical attention after their rescue. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq thanks President Tinubu for support and vows continued efforts until all abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi are freed.
The 38 members of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke-Isegun, Eruku, who were rescued from bandits on Sunday, have arrived at the Kwara State Government House, where Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and other senior officials received them.
Government representatives did not disclose details of how the rescue operation was carried out.
The victims, visibly tired after several days in captivity, were transported in a long bus accompanied by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS). Governor AbdulRazaq spoke briefly with them before they were taken to the Government House clinic for medical assessment and treatment.
Addressing journalists, the governor thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting efforts that led to the victims’ release. He noted, however, that the state would not fully celebrate until the schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi State are also safely recovered.
According to information gathered by Vanguard, the rescued worshippers will spend the night at the Government House pending medical clearance, after which they will be reunited with their families in Eruku.
One of the freed congregants, Bamidele Emmanuel, described the incident as traumatic. He said the church’s thanksgiving service had just started when gunshots were heard.
“They surrounded the church. Three people were killed and some were injured,” he said.
He added that the abductors led the victims deep into the forest and warned them not to attempt escaping.
“The experience was harrowing,” he said.
The Kwara State Government has assured that it will continue monitoring the victims’ recovery while national efforts persist to secure the release of the remaining abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi.
