Fubara visits Tinubu to be reinstatement

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Monday said he has reconciled with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, following a private meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, Fubara explained that he came to notify the President of his return to office after a six-month suspension.

Describing the engagement as a “father-and-son discussion,” he noted that he also sought Tinubu’s guidance to prevent a recurrence of political turmoil in the state.

On the purpose of the visit, Fubara said:
“You’re aware that the suspension was lifted midnight of the 17th, and I came in on the 19th. Ideally, it’s proper for me to see Mr. President and to tell him that I’m back, and I’ve also resumed my responsibility as the governor of Rivers State.

“It’s not much. It’s a father-and-son discussion, telling him thank you and seeking his guidance so we don’t find ourselves in any situation that will bring crisis again.”

When asked about the President’s counsel, he replied:
“He advised me on what to do and how to go in the right direction.”

On whether peace had truly returned to Rivers, Fubara declared:
“As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together.”

Dressed in a white caftan and black cap, the governor arrived at the Villa at about 6:20 pm. It was his first meeting with Tinubu since his suspension and the lifting of the state of emergency in Rivers on September 18, 2025.

President Tinubu had earlier, on March 18, declared a state of emergency in the state, suspended democratic structures, and appointed a sole administrator to manage its affairs.
