Fubara Reaffirms Support for United Ogoni, Backs MOSOP Unity Efforts
Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara restates commitment to a united Ogoni people and MOSOP during the 2026 Ogoni Day celebration, urging unity to achieve justice, peace and sustainable development.
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, has restated his commitment to a united Ogoni nation and its socio-cultural body, the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), urging leaders and stakeholders to embrace unity as the path to justice and progress.
In a message to mark the 2026 Ogoni Day celebration, Fubara said the Ogoni people would achieve the full scope of the justice they seek if they avoid disunity and internal divisions. The message was signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr Honour Sirawoo.
Congratulating the Ogoni people, the governor described Ogoni Day as a powerful symbol of resilience, identity and the historic struggle of the Ogoni nation. He paid tribute to MOSOP for its peaceful advocacy, which brought global attention to environmental justice, equity and human rights issues in Ogoniland and across the Niger Delta.
Fubara noted that the sacrifices and courage of the Ogoni people represent a defining chapter in Nigeria’s socio-political and democratic history.
“The Governor emphasised that Ogoni Day provides an opportunity for reflection and renewed commitment to the ideals that have sustained the Ogoni struggle over the decades,” the message read.
He called on Ogoni leaders and stakeholders to eschew disunity within MOSOP and the wider Ogoni community, stressing that unity of purpose is essential to advancing their collective interests.
According to the governor, the call for unity is particularly crucial at a time when the Federal Government has shown “demonstrable commitment through the ongoing dialogue process aimed at addressing the injustices and lingering challenges of the past.”
He assured that the Rivers State Government remains steadfast in its support for a united MOSOP and a united Ogoni people, and is committed to backing all genuine efforts that promote peace, dialogue, reconciliation and sustainable development in Ogoniland and across the state.
