Ganduje Withdraws Plan to Set Up Parallel Hisbah Board in Kano
Former Kano governor Abdullahi Ganduje has rescinded plans to set up a parallel Hisbah board after public backlash and stakeholder intervention to ensure peace and stability in the state.
Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has reversed his earlier move to establish a parallel Hisbah board in Kano State.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by Baffa Babba DanAgundi, Director-General of the National Productivity Centre and a senior All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Kano. He said the move to shelve the plan was taken in the interest of law, order, peace and stability in the state.
According to DanAgundi, the decision followed a meeting with stakeholders from across the state’s 44 local government areas, held at the Tinubu campaign office in Kano.
He explained that the withdrawal came after widespread public criticism of the proposed Independent Hisbah group, as well as interventions by key stakeholders, including the Kano State Government, the Department of State Services (DSS) and former Governor Ganduje himself.
“The decision was following widespread outcry that trailed the attempt to establish the Independent Hisbah group and the intervention of stakeholders, especially the Kano State Government and the Department of State Services, as well as the former executive Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, to ensure peace and stability,” DanAgundi said.
He added that the meeting agreed to suspend the plan to allow the state government address the issues peacefully.
“The meeting has resolved the suspension of the establishment of an independent Hisba Fisabilillah to allow the Kano State Government look into the issues amicably,” he stated.
DanAgundi further noted that stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to respecting constituted authority and cooperating with security agencies to maintain law and order in Kano State and across the country.
The development comes after Ganduje, through the Ganduje Foundation, announced the formation of a private Hisbah board in the state. The move had prompted Governor Abba Yusuf to issue an executive order immediately proscribing the initiative.
