Police in western Germany have confirmed that two people lost their lives after an ultralight aircraft crashed near Bitburg, close to the Luxembourg border.
In a statement on Monday, authorities said the plane went missing on Sunday evening after failing to land as scheduled at Bitburg airfield. Radar contact with the aircraft was lost shortly before the incident.
Police and firefighters later discovered the wreckage in a field about six kilometres north of Bitburg, where the bodies of the two occupants were recovered.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash.
