Gov. Abba Yusuf Backs Bill to Grant Full Autonomy to Kano LGs
Governor Abba Yusuf has endorsed a bill to grant financial and administrative autonomy to all 44 local government councils in Kano, saying the reform will strengthen grassroots governance and deepen democracy.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reiterated his commitment to grassroots governance by supporting a bill aimed at granting full autonomy to all local government councils in the state.
The governor declared his support while presiding over the 31st Executive Council meeting at the Government House Annex in Kwankwasiyya City, where the council approved forwarding the bill to the State House of Assembly for consideration.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, Governor Yusuf explained that the proposed law seeks to give the 44 local government councils in Kano both financial and administrative independence.
According to him:
“This reform will enable councils to manage their resources directly, execute projects without unnecessary delays, and make decisions that reflect the needs of their communities.”
He emphasized that local government autonomy is critical for promoting good governance, accountability, and accelerating development at the grassroots, describing the reform as a key step toward deepening democracy in the state.
Governor Yusuf also expressed optimism that members of the State House of Assembly would support the bill, stressing that it aligns with the overall interest of the people of Kano.
