Gov. Makinde signs chieftaincy bill, appoints perm secs, others

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Friday, signed into law the amendment of the state’s Chiefs Law, Cap. 28, seeking to grant the governor autonomy to present beaded crowns and coronets to chiefs in the state.

The PUNCH had reported that the state House of Assembly passed the bill during its sitting on Wednesday to amend the Chiefs Law, Cap 28, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000, after the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Local Government and State Honours.

The state Assembly had also on Friday, May 12, 2023, held a public hearing on the proposed amendment where opinions of all stakeholders, including traditional rulers, were aggregated.

Makinde, while assenting to the bill at the Executive Council Chamber in Ibadan, commended the lawmakers for their timely passage, saying it would help the traditional council to function well and forestall constant litigation.

In another development, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of Kikelomo Adegoke as the substantive Accountant General of the state.

The Head of Service, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, made this known in a statement on Friday, in Ibadan, according to a release issued by the Coordinating Director, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Gideon Alade.

Oni said that the appointment took effect on Thursday, May 26, 2023.

Makinde had also approved the appointment of 11 permanent secretaries in the civil service.

The governor also appointed two executive secretaries; Olusola Orobode and Muibat Lasisi.
