New Leadership Follows Resignation of Former Speaker Aondona Dajoh

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has congratulated Alfred Emberga on his election as the new Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, following the resignation of Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh during an emergency plenary session held in Makurdi on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

Emberga’s Election Reflects Confidence in His Leadership – Alia

In an official statement released on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia praised Emberga’s emergence as a sign of the trust and confidence his colleagues place in him.

“The Governor describes Emberga’s election as a reflection of the confidence his colleagues have in his leadership,” the statement read.

Alia expressed hope that under Emberga’s leadership, the Assembly would focus on enacting laws and policies to improve the welfare of Benue residents.

Governor Calls for Continued Harmony Among Government Arms

Governor Alia also urged the legislative arm to sustain a strong and cordial relationship with both the executive and judiciary.

“He calls on the legislative arm of government to continue to maintain a strong and cordial relationship with the executive and judiciary arms,” the statement continued.

Appreciation for Outgoing Speaker Dajoh

While welcoming the new Speaker, Alia also extended his appreciation to Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh for his contributions as former Speaker.

“While he appreciates the outgone Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh, for his contributions as the leader of the state legislature,” the Governor reaffirmed his support for Emberga and all members of the House.
