The administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia has embarked on the construction of over 390 kilometers of roads across all 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Benue State, as part of a broader infrastructure and development agenda.
This was disclosed by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, in Makurdi following his inspection of ongoing road and infrastructure projects within the state capital.
According to Kula, the state government has completed 16 township roads in the first phase of the initiative, while 25 more roads are currently under construction in Makurdi and other locations. Several rural and township roads have either been completed or are nearing completion.
“In fact, the Governor Alia-led administration is making significant strides in infrastructure and economic development,” Kula stated.
“With over 390 kilometers of roads currently under construction and several already completed, there is a wide array of projects spread across the state’s 23 LGAs.”
Kula emphasized that the road projects are only a part of the administration’s broader vision to transform Benue State and improve the lives of its people through people-oriented projects.
He listed additional major initiatives being implemented by the administration, including:
- Construction of the multi-billion Naira Cancer Centre at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital
- Completion of the Otobi Water Works in Zone C (Benue South)
- Renovation and construction of schools across the state
- Establishment of a new university at Ihugh in Vandeikya LGA
- Ongoing Makurdi and Gboko underpass projects
- Revitalization of industrial assets such as the Benue Brewery Limited, producers of Zeva Premier Beer, and the Benue Fruit Company
“The revival of Benue’s industrial assets is underway with the Benue Brewery construction progressing steadily and equipment currently being installed,” he added.
Kula explained that these efforts are geared towards enhancing access to healthcare, education, and public utilities, while also boosting economic growth and mobility throughout the state.
“Benue will no longer remain the same. The Governor is committed to the development of the state, and the projects — many of which are nearing completion — signal a new era of prosperity,” he said.
Reflecting on the inspection tour, Kula concluded:
“We can see that Benue is now a huge construction site, courtesy of Governor Alia’s commitment to make a difference through purposeful leadership. It is a long-term vision that will usher in a new Benue that we will all be proud of.”
