Almost everyone had a lot to say about the new governor when he was sworn in. None of it was good. “Adamawa has entered one chance and is doomed for destruction,” they said. Elites and political leaders from all works of life wasted no time in feeding the masses as well as those in the diaspora like me, via the media, that the newly elected governor is incompetent and will disappoint the electorates.

In fact, the same voices that were wrong about practically everything continue to say they were right, and just as important, they also continue to urge masses to trust them, despite the fact that their predictions are being torn apart by physical and structural evidence.

Broadly speaking, comments of incompetence by people with corruption charges hanging by their names do not break new grounds in relation to the existing developmental projects Governor Mohammad Jubrilla Bindow’s government has embarked on within the state capital.  Areas like Demsawo, Mubi Road and others which once suffered so much neglect in the past have now gained government attention for development.

Everyone makes predictions that turn out to be wrong once in a while, but in this case, cynics told Adamawa populace what to expect about a governing agenda based on ideological and philosophical assumptions. They insisted they knew what would happen as a result of Governor Bindow’s policies because they felt their political vision deserved to be trusted by the same masses they failed. But this is where political reality intrudes. Now we know, of course, that this vision was deeply flawed and their assumptions were wrong.

Pointing fingers and chuckling at those who made false predictions has its place, but accountability and responsibility matter more. The fact that skeptics are being proved wrong is important, but taking this track record into the future is even more important. We can set precedence for the kinds of candidates we elect if we, irrespective of tribe or religion, ask ineffectual politicians and their political institutions, to hush and take a (back) seat via our votes. This will overtime, engender political and intellectual resistance from balloters in the land of beauty.

The most influential tool for setting things right between reality and falsehood is through proven evidence, in essence, there has been a gross misrepresentation of the now apparent and vivid competence of Governor Mohammad Jubrilla Bindow, as exhibited in the developmental projects being executed within the state. At this point, it is incontrovertible that Adamawa has a dedicated, purposeful a result oriented Governor, at helm of its affairs. It will be political recklessness for detractors to continue to hold on to factually condemned ideologies, baseless postulations and disorientated positions in their misrepresentation of the competency of Governor Bindow to the “Talakawas” (Masses). Our people can see, it’s impossible to hide the truth.

What makes a competent government rooted in trust is not its ability to satisfy everybody at the same time. I really understand that there is no explanation will hold ground with those who are yet to be paid their salaries and all other entitlements. No amount of explanation as to the corruption investigation going on to rid the payment system of fraud will put food on their table for a fact. But that does not take out the truth that the government means well and will pay them their salaries as done to the rest of the workers. Trust is established over time and Governor Bindow is winning the trust of the masses for obvious reasons.
