A campaign group, Peter Obi Support Network, has commenced mobilisation of Nigerians to support the presidential ambition of a former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi.

They were to get N1,000 donation from six million supporters across the six geopolitical zones.

The group made this known on Monday at the inauguration of its zonal coordinators in Abuja.

Obi, who was a vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 election is now aspiring to be the President through the same party for the 2023 polls.

The Chairman of the Occasion, Sheikh Rufai Al-Siddiq, said, “The Peter Obi Support Network is over six million (in membership) and each (member) will donate not less than N1,000. Many will donate more than that.”

Al-Siddiq, who is from Kogi State where Governor Yahaha Bello is also contesting the presidency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, said that if the six million members of the POSN donate N1,000 each, the group would have raised N6 billion.

According to him, donations by all members would confirm their acceptance of Obi by Nigerians including Muslims.

He said, “Chance should be given to the candidate from the South-East. It will build good relationship throughout the country and bring unity. Peter Obi is the best person to be president in 2023.”

According to Al-Siddiq, as running mate to the last PDP presidential candidate and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Obi made the party to get massive votes especially from the South.

He said that the 2023 general elections should be the time for the South-East to produce the next President, stating that the zone has in Obi, a competent person who governed Anambra with good results to show.

Also, the organization’s Director of Strategy and Mobilisation, Marcel Ngogbehei, who addressed the audience virtually, said Obi would introduce digital governance if elected president.

He said, “We have four main objectives and what we are trying to do is to create a platform that will encourage national unity and cohesion. That platform will also enable citizens to mobilise and collaborate in such a way that they will be able to influence leadership at every level in Nigeria.

“Our position is this; We want to support the Peter Obi candidacy all the way from the primary up to the election and we want to raise funds for him so that he will be able to match, toe-to-toe, with whatever that is coming from the delegates and other aspirants. We have spoken to all our coordinators across the country – six regional coordinators- and we have said we need six million Nigerians to donate at least N1,000 each and that will help make what we want to come true – six million Nigerians, N1,000 each.

“When you divide this across the regions, we expect that one million Nigerians from each of the zones; if they come out and say ‘I want a better country in Nigeria; I want something that will be there for my children; I want something that I can be proud of,’ all we asking you to do is just N1,000. When we did this, we are going to use it to support the Peter Obi candidacy both at the PDP delegates’ election and all the way down.”
