Gunman Still at Large at Brown University, Authorities Urge Shelter-in-Place

An active shooter was reported on the campus of Brown University on Saturday evening, with the Ivy League school in Rhode Island confirming that the suspect remains at large.

“There’s an active shooter situation near Barus and Holley. Brown and Providence Police are on scene,” the university said in an emergency alert, advising people to shelter in place.

Although Brown initially reported that a suspect had been detained, the school updated the statement less than an hour later: “Police do not have a suspect in custody and continue to search for suspect(s).”

Multiple law enforcement agencies and emergency medical responders were present at the scene, according to the university.

Brown University, located in Providence near Boston, has approximately 11,000 students.
