Gunmen invade Plateau community, many feared dead

The Zurak hamlet in the Bashar District of the Wase local government area in Plateau State has been overrun by armed men.

Numerous sources verified that on Monday night, a large number of locals were killed, others injured, and numerous properties, including houses, were set on fire.

While DSP Alfred Alabo, who speaks for the State Police Command, could not be reached at the time of the report, neither the State Police Command nor Operation Safe Haven, which is tasked with maintaining peace in the state, could confirm the development.

Major Nantip Zhakom, the media officer for OpSH, promised to respond as soon as the information reached his office. Furthermore, Hamisu Anani, the Wase Transition Committee Chairman, was inaccessible at his listed phone number.

However, Aminu Dahiru told Vanguard on phone that he heard about the incident “at about 6 pm on Monday when people were running away from Zurak to other communities.”

He said, “Tension built up from Sunday when some vigilante who sense imminent danger to the community went to the camp of the bandits. On Monday evening, the bandits came in their numbers on motorcycles and shooting and burning houses.”
