The Palestinian group Hamas has denied claims that its fighters were involved in an attack on Israeli troops in Gaza, reiterating its commitment to the ongoing US-brokered ceasefire with Israel.

“Hamas affirms that it has no connection to the shooting incident in Rafah and affirms its commitment to the ceasefire agreement,” the group said in a statement on Tuesday.

Earlier, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz accused Hamas of launching an assault on Israeli forces in Gaza but did not disclose the exact location or details of the alleged incident.

The denial from Hamas comes amid heightened tensions following reports of renewed skirmishes, despite assurances from both sides that the truce remains in place.
