“I Haven’t Found What I Want in a Man” — Mercy Eke Explains Why She’s Still Single

BBNaija star Mercy Eke says she’s still single because she hasn’t found the kind of man she wants. She adds that she doesn’t mind having children outside marriage and hopes to have three kids, noting that successful single mothers face no stigma.

Reality TV star and BBNaija Season 4 winner, Mercy Eke, has opened up about why she is still single, saying she has yet to meet the kind of man she desires. According to her, it’s not due to a lack of suitors — in fact, she said she could get married anytime she chooses.

Speaking on a recent podcast, Eke said: “What I want in a man, I have not seen.” She added that she doesn’t mind becoming a mother before marriage, although she is not actively trying to do so.

Eke explained that if she unexpectedly became pregnant outside marriage, she would keep the child:
“I won’t go the extra mile to get pregnant out of wedlock. But if it just happens, I would leave it and I would have my baby.”

She argued that societal stigma against single mothers is mostly directed at women who are not financially stable.
“Even if I don’t get married, I would still have children. What most people don’t know is that the stigma of being a single mother only applies to women who don’t have things going well for them,” she said.

The reality star also shared her dream of having three children — preferably two girls and a boy, or three girls because she loves daughters.

Speaking further, she said successful single mothers often receive admiration and marriage proposals:
“The women [single mothers] that are shattering glasses, men are begging them for marriage. I can get married tomorrow if I want to.
But what I want in a man, I have not seen it. It’s not like there is no suitor — there are plenty…
So, even if I have a baby, I would still see a man.”
