Ibadan Journalist Shot Dead in Broad Daylight Robbery
Ibadan journalist Ojo Peter was killed in a daylight robbery along Molete–Oke Ado despite pleading with attackers. Police confirm arrest of one suspect while another died resisting arrest.

A journalist based in Ibadan, Ojo Peter, has died after being shot by suspected armed robbers in a daylight attack along the Molete–Oke Ado axis of the city.
The incident, which occurred on August 18, 2025, was initially believed to be health-related until his younger brother, Enahoro Peter, clarified that Ojo was targeted for the cross bag he carried.
According to Enahoro, eyewitnesses said Ojo pleaded with the attackers, shouting that the bag contained no money, but he was still shot in the back before being robbed.
Ojo, a former reporter with Parrot Extra who later worked with Daily Monitor, was widely mourned after the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) announced his death on September 7.
Recounting the family’s experience, Enahoro said police officers at the Orita Challenge Division reached out after the incident. “This is someone who left home in perfect health, only to be gunned down while trying to make ends meet,” he lamented. He added that Ojo’s damaged phone, recovered at the scene, was how the family was contacted.
Following the attack, police investigations led to the arrest of one suspect, while another died during a confrontation with operatives.
The Oyo State Police Command, through its spokesperson CSP Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the development, stating that two suspects linked to a series of robberies in Ibadan were intercepted with a motorcycle around Imolefalafia.
According to Osifeso, one suspect resisted arrest and was fatally injured, while the other was taken into custody. He further revealed that the suspects were also connected to another robbery and shooting incident at Anfani Junction on the same day.
He assured that investigations were ongoing, with more updates to be provided as the case progresses.
