Ijaw Youth Council Urges INEC Chair to Implement New Warri Constituency Boundaries
The Ijaw Youth Council, Gbaramatu Clan, has urged INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan to implement the July 2024 Warri Federal Constituency redelineation report and suspend the ongoing voter registration until the new boundaries take effect.
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Gbaramatu Clan, has called on the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, to immediately implement the findings of the recent ward redelineation exercise carried out in Warri Federal Constituency, describing it as a crucial step toward lasting peace in the area.
In a statement jointly signed by Oyinkuro Wazo Zikurebai (Chairman), Tracy Lawei Edolo (Secretary), and Ari Ebimotimi (Information Officer), the group urged the INEC chief to also suspend the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the constituency, alleging that the exercise was still being conducted using outdated boundary demarcations.
“Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, should commence implementation of the field report from the fresh constituency delineation exercise conducted across the Warri Federal Constituency in July 2024,” the statement read.
“We call for an immediate halt to the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the Warri Federal Constituency until the new boundaries, as stipulated in the July 2024 field report, are formally gazetted and implemented.”
The IYC warned that failure by INEC to act swiftly on the matter would amount to a grave injustice to the people of Warri and could undermine public confidence in the judicial process.
“Failure to act decisively will not only perpetuate a grave injustice against the people of Warri but will also completely jeopardise the integrity of our fledgling judicial system,” the group added.
The council emphasized that full implementation of the redelineation report is essential to ensure equitable representation and sustainable peace in Warri Federal Constituency.
