Former presidential aspirant and Convener of the YesWeFit Revolutionary Movement, Dr. Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, has urged Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to avoid being distracted by political detractors or praise-singers, and instead concentrate on delivering good governance for the benefit of the people.

In a statement released in Akure, Ondo State, Ikubese also appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers governor, Nyesom Wike, to “avoid unnecessary interference in the affairs of the state and allow peace to reign in the overall interest of the people.”

He further raised concern over the role of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd.), who administered Rivers State for six months under emergency rule, questioning why he failed to properly hand over to the elected governor.

“I find it curious that the sole administrator left after six months of sitting on the resources of Rivers State without properly handing over to Governor Siminalayi Fubara,” Ikubese said.

“It is expedient that Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd) publish his activities while in office during the six-month emergency period, in the spirit of transparency and accountability,” he added.

On the state of emergency, Ikubese pointed out that while Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) provides for such declarations, it does not explicitly authorize the suspension of democratic structures within a state.

He, therefore, called on the judiciary to expedite rulings on the cases already before it, including the suit filed by seven PDP governors, stressing that urgent judicial intervention is necessary “to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.”
