In Nigeria: We Don’t Hate Capitalism But Its Cruel Actors -By Abdulrahman Yunusa
Think of how much Malam Talaka will suffer when these sensitive sectors are being transferred in to the hands of wicked Nigerian capitalist who often sees chance to subjugate the weaker class through price hike and many other unpleasant factors.
Actually Capitalism in it self has never been a devil system as any other existing economic modules but the devilish activities and unwelcoming behaviors of the actors surrounding it makes it to be inevitably seen as such.
Unlike any other system Capitalism is the only existing economic system that advocate individuals to run an economy with less or no governmental supervision and despite knowing the selfish nature of a man it allows them determine the price at the expense of the lower class people who comprise almost 70% of our population.
Therefore the moment you feel the urge to believe that anything should be deregulated including ” Education, Health and power ” for the sake of getting it improved at the expense of the lower class citizens, then you are indirectly somehow liking to see the lower class citizens keep wallowing in misery.
As for the case of Petroleum industry, I can’t argue enough because even if I could, it won’t make sense for the government have apocryphally made it in some subtle ways that only few citizens can fathom it.
But take the case of power sector and put it in to question. Does the deregulation make it affordable to the citizens ? Does it make the power stable in the country ? If you can justly answer these questions you can hardly support the privatization of such sensitive sector. Gas is now fully deregularized, but see how people are struggle hard to cope with the aftereffect of the decision. Some have lost their job and some are struggling with teary eyes as the result of it.
Then come down to Education and Health. Even with free education at the basic level yet some people find it unwanting to enroll their kids to be taught on western education in particular. Some are still dying because of lack of enough fund to buy drugs after being diagnosed freely by the govt hospitals.
Think of how much Malam Talaka will suffer when these sensitive sectors are being transferred in to the hands of wicked Nigerian capitalist who often sees chance to subjugate the weaker class through price hike and many other unpleasant factors.
How do you think such a total capitalistic system could operate in a poor setting like Nigerian without subjecting poor people to misery ? Think that our people are always busy at searching for a slight opportunity to enrich themselves ahead of others who are financially handicap in our society. Do you think with such greedy minds we can have a better society under this system, never, I reckon.
Obviously Nigeria has never grown enough to practice pure capitalism at this time. We should rather advocate for a system that will render some percentage of control to the govt for the fear of being bruised by the iron hands of greedy capitalist.
Let’s give more concern about the status of Malam Talaka first before thinking about any other thing. For Malam Talaka is the govt in itself, without him there won’t be an entity called government let alone talk about leaders or elites.
However, it’s a fact that we love to see private companies are thriving but in the hands of saner people with compassion and sympathy at it climax. Not in the hands of capitalistic beast who often wish to eat on our flesh and burden our poor yoke as well.
May Malam Talaka scale all the hurdles 🤲🏾
