The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that the in-person continuous voter registration exercise in Yobe State’s 17 local government areas will conclude on December 10.

Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, Yobe State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), disclosed this in a statement issued in Damaturu on Wednesday.

He added that the preliminary voter register will be displayed for claims and objections from December 15 to December 21. The process allows registrants to correct errors in their biodata, including names, wards, and National Identification Numbers (NIN).

Abdullahi stated that December 21 has been specifically set aside to address complaints arising from the claims and objections.

The REC further announced that the second phase of the continuous in-person voter registration will commence on January 5, 2026.

He reminded that the continuous voter registration began on August 18 with online registration, followed by the in-person exercise starting August 25.

“The registration of voters and the production of an accurate register are fundamental and critical requirements of the electoral system. They are also primary functions of the Independent National Electoral Commission,” Abdullahi said.

He cited Section 10 of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), noting that it mandates the Commission to conduct voter registration on a continuous basis.
