INEC Commences Distribution of Sensitive Materials Ahead of Saturday’s Anambra Governorship Election
INEC has started distributing sensitive materials ahead of the November 8, 2025 Anambra governorship election. REC Elizabeth Agwu assures readiness, as police increase security personnel to 55,000 for a credible and peaceful poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially begun distributing sensitive and non-sensitive materials for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The materials, which arrived at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) branch in Awka on Wednesday, were dispatched to various local government areas on Thursday under the close supervision of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Elizabeth Agwu, and amid heightened security.
Dr. Agwu explained that the early distribution was part of measures to guarantee timely delivery of all election materials to their respective destinations before the polls.
“We began early distribution to ensure that every material reaches the right location ahead of time. INEC is fully prepared to deliver a smooth and credible exercise,” she said.
Party agents were present at the CBN premises to monitor the sorting and distribution of sensitive materials, including the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices and electoral forms EC8A and EC8B, all under tight security supervision.
Dr. Agwu also urged residents of Anambra to participate actively in the election, emphasizing that INEC had concluded detailed coordination with political parties, security agencies, and civil society groups.
“People should come out and vote. Do not think your vote will not count or that a winner has already been decided. INEC is committed to a free, fair, and peaceful election,” she assured.
She confirmed that movement of sensitive materials to Registration Area Centres (RACs) had already commenced as part of final preparations.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle, who is overseeing security operations for the election, announced an increase in security personnel from 45,000 to 55,000.
According to him, the reinforcement aims to ensure adequate protection across polling units and foster voter confidence.
“The increase in security personnel is not for intimidation but to guarantee order and safety for voters and electoral officials. At least three officers will be stationed at every polling unit,” he stated.
The security deployment will include operatives from the Nigeria Police Force, Immigration Service, NDLEA, DSS, and other agencies.
Shogunle assured the public that the election would be conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful manner.
INEC confirmed that 16 candidates from 16 political parties will contest in the election, with Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) seeking re-election.
