The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kebbi State has commenced the second phase of its continuous voter registration, starting with a symbolic stakeholders’ meeting aimed at encouraging eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Speaking at the event, Kebbi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar S. Pawa Dambo, said the exercise provides Nigerians aged 18 and above the opportunity to register and participate in the democratic process.

“As the 2027 polls approach, we want to make sure every Nigerian of voting age registers with us,” Dambo emphasized.

He added that from phase one through the current phase, the commission has intensified public awareness campaigns across radio, television, newspapers, and other media to educate Kebbi residents and Nigerians nationwide.

During the meeting, participants raised concerns over vote-buying, proxy voting, and allegations that some politicians pay citizens to collect PVCs on their behalf. In response, the commission clarified that it does not have the authority to prevent vote-buying; such enforcement falls under the jurisdiction of security agencies responsible for arresting and prosecuting offenders.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Intra-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), civil society organizations (CSOs), women’s groups, traditional and religious leaders, political parties, and security agencies.
