Inevitability In Oyo State Amotekun Corps -By Segun Adebowale

The main purpose of code of conduct is to set and maintain a standard for acceptable behavior to all stakeholders in an organization. It is also a reminder to the employees of what is expected from them. It further highlights that their actions should always aligned with the ethos and etiquette of the institution. Have a critical and analytical evaluation of pertinent and significant work embedded in code of conduct that the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) failed to operate with for the past 452 days of its operation. What a catastrophe!!!

It is general belief and fact that “No one can run away from his/her shadow” but this is what the Management of Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) failed to accept and understand. Due to the above fact, the Oyo State Security Agency (Amotekun) management team is operating by taking exigency above moral and standard Security operational manual by only attend to the immediate indiscipline acts that unveiled itself through any of their personnel.

Whereas, what the Agency is technically avoiding is quiet inevitable and paramount to successful operation and organization of any standard Security outfit. The Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) is tactically shying away from making Oyo State Amotekun Operational Manual/Code of conduct available to its corps members and the members of the public. The importance of Operational Manual and Code of conduct in Security work cannot be over-emphasized, as this article shall move in-depth to gives the reader all those known content of Operational Manual and Code of Conduct which you yourself will, without any bias mind, if really Security outfit like Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amokekun) can works / operates without the Operational Manual and Code of Conduct. If the Oyo State Amotekun would be prevented from scuttling by the Oyo State Government and the Amotekun Board of Governance these two tools (Operational manual and Code of conduct) of Security office are essential and inevitable.

In Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) there are progressive individuals among the Amotekun Board of Governance who are seriously working to attain standard in Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) whose opinions and plans are grossly dominated and impeded by reactionaries whose ulterior motive is to favor their Caucus (OPCs) who have been planted as Coordinator and Operational leader across almost (90%) the 33 Local Government area of the State and also hold important post at the State headquarters, Moniya lbadan.

The Security Operational Manual is one of the essential tools of office in a standard security outfit, which is the repository of all written policies and SOPs that pertain to the security function. The Security Manual also contains job description, training materials, reports, and forms used by security personnel. It is also the documentation by which an organization provides guidance for members and employees to perform their functions correctly and reasonably efficiently. It documents the approved standard procedures for performing operations safely to produce goods and provide services. This important security working tool of office is lacking in the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun). One may ask how Oyo State Amotekun corps operates without operational manual. How realistic and to what extent are all the key-words describing Operational Manual being operated / used in the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun).

The second vital tool of office lacking in the Oyo State Security Network (Amotekun) is Code of Conduct. This is described as most common policy of organization. This policy lays/ maps-out the organization’s principles, standards, and the moral and ethical expectations that employees and third parties are held to as they interact with the organization. A code of conduct is a set of rules outlining the norms, rules, and responsibilities or proper practice of an individual party or an organization. A well written code of conduct clarifies an organization’s mission, values and principles, linking them with standards of professional conduct. The conduct articulates the values the organization wishes to foster in leaders and employees and, in doing so, defines desired behavior. Written codes of conduct or ethics can become benchmarks against which individual and organizational performance can be measured.

Also, it is a central guide and reference for employees to support day-to-day decision making.

Briefly let me intimate (which I believe they know) the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) and the Oyo State Government of the code of conduct content that a Security Organization like Oyo State Amotekun cannot do away with, I wish the management can indicate which one can be parted with in building a reliable and model security of this century. Based on the aforementioned Contents of Code of conduct and operational manual for a Standard Security Organization like the one the Oyo State Government is wishing (in mind not in action) that Oyo State Security Network would be. Can the Oyo State Amotekun Board of Governance and the Oyo State Amotekun Commandant explain which out of the code of conduct contents stated above (Article and Appendix) should be discard or irrelevant in building a 21st Century Security outfit to the world view standard. These explanations should be given to the Oyo State Government, Legislature and judicial council who in return relate the justification behind the intentional scuttling of the Oyo Security Network Agency (Amotekun) progressive loaded ship (initiated by His Excellency Engineer Seyi Makinde led administration)with mere Odua People Congress (OPC) caucus agenda to the member of public.

On my part all I could done as a patriotic citizen of Oyo State and Yoruba land is still in progress, as part of effort makes a copy of written petition titled “REF: CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN OYO STATE AMOTEKUN CORPS” has been forwarded to:
