Insecurity: Police, Security Agencies Relaunch ‘Operation Sweep FCT’
Police and security agencies have relaunched Operation Sweep FCT to counter rising kidnapping and banditry, boosting patrols and multi-agency visibility across Abuja.
With growing public concern over incidents of kidnapping and banditry, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command—working alongside several security agencies—has reinstated the joint security initiative known as Operation Sweep FCT.
The operation was officially relaunched on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, under the full endorsement and strategic direction of the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.
According to the Command, the Minister’s strong emphasis on resident safety has boosted inter-agency collaboration and improved overall operational effectiveness within the Territory.
Before deployment, leaders of all participating security agencies addressed their personnel at Eagle Square, stressing a renewed focus on proactive, intelligence-led, and highly visible security operations.
Operation Sweep FCT aims to deter criminal activity, improve police visibility, and ensure swift, coordinated responses to new and evolving security threats.
The joint task force comprises the Nigeria Police Force (FCT Command), Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Other agencies taking part include the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Fire Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Directorate of Road Traffic Services (VIO), Development Control, Environmental Enforcement and Monitoring Teams, and several supporting security and regulatory bodies.
To improve coverage, the FCT has been segmented into strategic zones to enable quick deployment, increased patrols, and a stronger multi-agency presence across districts and communities.
The FCT Police Command reiterated its dedication to safeguarding lives and property and urged residents to remain vigilant. Suspicious activities can be reported through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
