Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has expressed deep concern over renewed insurgent attacks that left several people dead in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area, and Mussa community in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Over the weekend, suspected Boko Haram fighters struck twice. On Saturday morning, five farmers were brutally killed while working on their farmlands in Ngoshe. Later that night, gunmen invaded Mussa community, killing three youths before setting houses and shops ablaze.

The coordinated assaults have left the communities in shock and mourning, heightening fears about persistent insecurity in the region.

Reacting in a statement on Sunday night, Senator Ndume praised the efforts and sacrifices of troops under the leadership of the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar. However, he described the fresh killings as “heartbreaking and deeply painful.”

“I am profoundly saddened by these senseless killings. Our people, whose only pursuit is peace and livelihood, continue to fall victim to the cruelty of insurgents. These young men and women deserved to live, to farm, and to dream, but their lives have been cut short by those who thrive on violence and destruction,” Ndume said.

He assured residents of Ngoshe, Mussa, and the entire Borno South of his commitment to their safety, stressing that he is working with both the Federal and State Governments as well as the military and security agencies to strengthen security in rural communities.

“We will not fold our hands while our people are being attacked. I will continue to push at every level for more deployment of security personnel, sophisticated weapons, stationed attack helicopters or fighter jets, improved intelligence sharing, and proactive measures to protect our vulnerable farming communities. The safety of our people remains my top priority,” he assured.

Ndume further urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and foster unity across communities, emphasizing that resilience and solidarity are key to overcoming the menace of insurgency.
