Iran Executes Bahman Choubi Asl, Accused of Being Senior Israeli Spy

Iran says it has executed Bahman Choubi Asl, accused of working closely with Israel’s Mossad and accessing sensitive state data. The move follows June’s Iran-Israel war and a series of arrests and executions targeting alleged spies.

Iran announced on Monday that it executed a man it described as one of Israel’s top spies after convicting him of collaborating with its long-time rival.

“One of the leading spies of the Zionist regime in Iran, Bahman Choubi Asl, was hanged this morning,” the judiciary’s Mizan Online news site reported.

The execution comes months after Iran and Israel fought a 12-day war in June, triggered by unprecedented Israeli airstrikes on military, government, and nuclear facilities in the Islamic republic. Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Israel, a state it does not officially recognise.

Following the conflict, Iranian authorities pledged rapid trials for suspects accused of cooperating with Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency. Several arrests and executions have since been announced.

According to Iran’s judiciary, Choubi Asl worked “closely” with Israeli intelligence and had “privileged access to vital and sovereign databases” within the Islamic republic. The statement did not specify when he was detained.

The June strikes killed senior Iranian military officers, nuclear scientists, and hundreds of others, including civilians.

Earlier, on August 9, the judiciary said it had launched an investigation into 20 people arrested for alleged links with Israel. Days before that, Iran executed Roozbeh Vadi, accused of providing intelligence about a nuclear scientist killed during the conflict.
